Hot-weather concreting in Oman: a practical site checklist
Published October 28, 2026 · 5 min read · By the SURBAHLA technical desk
Summer temperatures in Oman accelerate setting, raise water demand and increase the risk of plastic shrinkage cracks. Plan the pour around the heat, not the other way round.
Before the pour
- Schedule placement for early morning or night when possible
- Dampen formwork and subgrade; shade reinforcement and aggregates
- Agree a maximum concrete temperature at delivery in the specification
- Confirm truck cycle times so concrete is not waiting on site
In the mix
Chilled mixing water or ice replacement, retarding admixtures and the right cement type help control temperature and workability. Do not add water on site to recover slump.
After placement
Start curing immediately: fog misting, wet hessian, curing compound or polythene. Keep surfaces moist for the period your specification requires, commonly at least seven days for structural elements.
Use the concrete calculator to estimate volume and cement for each pour, then request a quote for scheduled deliveries.
